Let's start with the simplest version of the truth. LawyerHatch exists because serious CLAT preparation has become far too expensive and far too opaque. A bright student in a small town, or one whose family can't spare lakhs for coaching, ends up at a quiet disadvantage that has nothing to do with how hard they're willing to work. We think that's the wrong way to run an exam that decides who gets into the National Law Universities.
So we built the thing we wished existed: a free, high-quality, genuinely exam-realistic practice platform for lawyerhatch clat aspirants. Not a PDF dump. Not a wall of answer keys. A proper test experience — the same kind of screen, timer and scoring you'll meet on exam day — that you can use as much as you like, for nothing.
Why we built LawyerHatch
The CLAT is not an unfair exam. It tests reading, reasoning and a clear head under time pressure — skills any committed student can build. What's unfair is the access gap. The best mock tests and the most polished practice software usually sit behind a fee. The students who most need cheap, honest practice are often the ones least able to pay for it.
Our mission is narrow and stubborn: give every CLAT aspirant free practice that feels like the real thing. Not a watered-down free tier with the good bits locked away. The actual test engine, the actual past papers, the actual solutions — open to everyone.
- ✓Free, properly — the mocks, papers, drills and guides are all open. There's no paywall waiting two clicks in.
- ✓Exam-realistic — you practise on a screen built to mirror the real CBT interface, so exam day feels familiar, not frightening.
- ✓Honest — scored tests use the official answer key, and where a key is doubtful or missing, we tell you plainly instead of guessing.
- ✓Self-serve — pick a test, take it, learn from it, repeat. No appointments, no sales calls, no pressure.
What you'll find here
There are four things on the platform, and they're designed to work together. You can start anywhere, but most students settle into a rhythm of drills during the week and a full mock at the weekend.
- A real exam-screen CBT engine — every test runs in an interface modelled on the actual computer-based exam: a live countdown timer, a question palette down the side, mark-for-review, and a clean submit-and-review flow.
- Previous-year papers (2018–2025) — eight years of actual CLAT papers, parsed question by question and turned into sittable mock tests, so you practise on the real thing rather than imitations.
- Topic drills, sectional tests and full mocks — short focused drills on one topic, section-only tests when you want to fix a weak area, and full 120-question, 120-minute mocks to build stamina.
- In-depth chapter guides for all five sections — clear, exam-smart write-ups of English Language, Current Affairs & GK, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning and Quantitative Techniques, each with worked examples in real CLAT style.
How the practice engine works
The point of LawyerHatch is the test experience, so it's worth walking through exactly what happens when you sit down to practise. There's no setup and no account hoops — you pick a test and you're in.
- 1
Pick a testChoose a previous-year paper, a sectional test, a topic drill or a full mock. Each is labelled with its section, length and timing so you know what you're getting into.
- 2
Solve in the real interfaceThe test opens on an exam-style screen: a countdown timer at the top, a question palette showing what you've answered, skipped or flagged, and a mark-for-review button so you can park a tricky question and come back. It's deliberately close to the real CBT screen.
- 3
Submit when you're doneSubmit early or let the timer run out — either way the engine locks your answers and works out your result instantly. No waiting, no manual checking against a key.
- 4
See your score and accuracyYou get your total with CLAT's real marking applied — +1 for a correct answer, −0.25 for a wrong one, 0 for unattempted — plus your accuracy and a section-by-section breakdown so you can see where the marks went.
- 5
Read the solution for every questionThis is where the learning happens. Every question comes with a full worked solution explaining the right answer and, just as importantly, why the tempting wrong options are wrong. Reviewing this is how a mock turns into a lesson.
Our approach to accuracy and honesty
A practice platform is only worth your time if you can trust the answers. We take that seriously, and part of trust is being upfront about the edges where things get messy. Here's exactly how we handle the answer keys.
- Scored tests use the official answer key. Where the Consortium or the official source has published a key, that is what we mark against — not our own opinion of the correct option.
- Withdrawn or modified-key questions are excluded from scoring. Every year a handful of questions are challenged, dropped or have their key revised. We leave those out of your score so a disputed question never costs you marks — but you can still read and attempt them.
- The 2019 paper is reading-practice only. There's no clean, machine-readable official key we're confident in for that paper, so rather than fake one, we offer it as reading and familiarisation practice and don't attach a competitive score to it.
Practise on the real thing, scored the real way, with the answers we can actually stand behind.
Who LawyerHatch is for
If you're aiming for an NLU, this is built for you. We had a few people in mind specifically while building it, and you'll probably see yourself in one of them.
- ✓Class 11 students starting early — use the section guides and topic drills to build skills slowly, long before the pressure arrives.
- ✓Class 12 students in the thick of it — alternate sectional tests with full mocks to sharpen speed, accuracy and exam temperament.
- ✓Droppers and repeat aspirants — work through every previous-year paper, track your scores, and turn last year's near-miss into this year's seat.
- ✓Anyone targeting the NLUs on a budget — if cost was the thing standing between you and good practice, that barrier is gone.
How to get the most out of it
- Treat mocks as data, not verdicts. A low score early on is just a measurement. Read the solutions, find the pattern in your errors, and re-drill that topic.
- Always review your wrong answers. The fifteen minutes you spend reading solutions after a mock are worth more than the test itself.
- Practise to the clock. CLAT is as much a time-management exam as a knowledge one. Use the timer honestly, even when it stings.
- Be deliberate about guessing. With −0.25 in play, learn which guesses are worth it. The engine's scoring will teach you fast.

Independence and disclaimer
We want to be completely clear about what LawyerHatch is and isn't. LawyerHatch is an independent educational tool. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the Consortium of National Law Universities or any individual National Law University. We are not an official source of CLAT information, and nothing here should be treated as an official announcement.
For anything official — registration, exam dates, the authoritative syllabus, official answer keys and results — always refer to the Consortium of NLUs' own website. Where our content touches on the exam pattern or syllabus, we work hard to keep it accurate, but the official source is the final word.
